Portrait of Innocent X by Velázquez

Dated 1650, it is considered the masterpiece of the Doria Pamphilj Gallery collection. In fact, this powerful image portrays the face, and even soul, of the pope with such great realism that many artists and art critics repute it as the finest portrait ever created. The painting is displayed in a special room called The Velázquez Cabinet.

The Aldobrandini Room is the backdrop for this austere double portrait of great stylistic restraint representing two figures whose identity is still a mystery.
