Odescalchi Collection: Caravaggio - Special Opening

Odescalchi Collection: Caravaggio - Special Opening

2-hour private tour

Special guided tour with extraordinary opening of Palazzo Odescalchi to discover this historic residence and Caravaggio's work.

Extraordinary opening of Palazzo Odescalchi, with entrance to the Piano Nobile and the private residence, kindly granted by the family. The original building belonged to the Colonna family, who sold it to the Ludovisi in 1622, only to repurchase it a few years later. In 1661, the palace, leased to Cardinal Flavio Chigi, underwent a significant transformation by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. In 1745, the property passed to Prince Baldassare Odescalchi and was subsequently expanded by Nicola Salvi and Luigi Vanvitelli.

Particularly significant is the original part of the palace, whose facade was designed by Bernini. In fact, this seventeenth-century facade can be considered a true model for the facades of Italian and European Baroque palaces. Bernini, in fact, proposed it in a project for the Louvre's facade, which was not realized. We will also have the great privilege of admiring in person the first version of Caravaggio's Conversion of Saul, commissioned for the Cappella Cerasi in Santa Maria del Popolo, and visiting the private apartments of the palace.
